Minister Zulu will speak to the media about child support top-ups and R350 COVID-19 social relief of distress grants.
The department wishes to establish relationships with underserved and vulnerable communities that rely on social development services to survive and improve their quality of life. The month of October has been designated as National Social Development Month.

Ms. Lindiwe Zulu, Minister of Social Development, will provide an update on Monday, October 10, on the Child Support Grant (CSG) Top-Up and the R350 COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, as well as the department’s plans to ensure that the country is aware of the services it provides.

The Minister will take advantage of the opportunity to highlight the eligibility and criteria for South Africans to access the CSG, which is not necessarily a new grant but rather an addition to the basic Child Support Grant for orphans in the care of relatives. This year’s Social Development Month is being observed under the theme “United in the Fight Against Poverty and Other Social Ills,” and the Minister will use this opportunity to highlight the theme. A status report on the R350 COVID-19 Social Relief of Distress grant will also be given to her.

A Sexual and Reproductive Health Justice (SRJ) Seminar will be held by the Department of Social Development on the same day. This seminar aims to give the marginalized and vulnerable the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about their bodies, sexuality, and reproduction.

The ICPD25 Report (2021), titled “No Exceptions, No Exclusions: Realizing Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice for All,” contains a detailed explanation of the highlights from the Nairobi Summit and will be discussed at the seminar, among other topics.
