The Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering’s mission is to educate and train engineers who will be successful in their careers, take on leadership roles and be recognized on a global scale for their excellence in the conception, design, development, and operation of mechanical and aeronautical engineering systems.

The Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment, and Information Technology have 14 departments, including the Department of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, which is the biggest mechanical engineering department in South Africa.
