In order to provide patients with care, nurses are essential members of the healthcare team who collaborate with doctors, therapists, and other medical professionals. There is always a need for nurses. Nursing is one of the “Top Ten” jobs with the most growth potential and job opportunities, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
From direct patient care in a hospital to doctoral-trained research positions with international public health agencies, nursing offers a wide range of professional opportunities.

Since Hamilton College does not offer a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, students who are interested in the field can choose one of two paths after graduating:
1. Through an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program, you can get a second Bachelor’s degree and become a registered nurse (RN).
2. Follow a program for a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with direct entry. With this degree, you can become a nurse practitioner (NP) after first getting a license as an RN.
The ability to take medical histories, diagnose and treat diseases, order X-rays and diagnostic tests, write prescriptions, and request referrals are all skills that are taught to nurse practitioners. Nurse practitioners can choose to specialize in a variety of fields, including family medicine, adult health, pediatrics, acute care, women’s health, oncology, surgery, and so on. Nurse practitioners are not required to work under the direction of a physician and can open their own offices.
