National Certificate (Vocational) (NCV) Guidelines

The minimum admission requirement for a Bachelor’s degree program is a National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 issued by the Council for General and Further Education and Training, subject to institutional admission requirements. One of the minimum legal requirements for admission to a Bachelor’s degree program is completing the following:

• Three fundamental subjects with a range of 60 to 69 percent (including English as the language of instruction at Wits) and three vocational subjects with a range of 70 to 79 percent from the designated list

If an applicant holds an NCV, he or she may be asked to take a test, provided that he or she has satisfied the mandatory institutional requirements as well as the requirements specific to the faculty and the degree. A candidate must possess:

• Taken English as either Language of Learning and Teaching or as the First Additional language
• Taken Mathematics as a Fundamental Component
• Achieved 70 – 79% (4) for all seven subjects – in fundamental and vocational categories.
