Commencement of NSFAS Application for 2024-2025 Academic Year: We encourage eligible students to initiate their NSFAS application process well in advance of the closing date. The NSFAS application window will be open for four months, starting from August 3 and concluding on November 30. If you are a South African citizen preparing to pursue higher education at a college or tertiary institution and require NSFAS financial assistance, you can apply online for the NSFAS bursary for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year. Ensure you gather the necessary supporting documents and proceed with the online application. Kindly note that applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Who Qualifies for NSFAS Funding?
- All South African citizens
- All recipients of SASSA grants are eligible for funding.
- Applicants with a combined household income not exceeding R350,000 per annum.
- Individuals with disabilities: Combined household income should not exceed R600,000 per annum.
- Students who commenced their studies before 2018, with a household income not exceeding R122,000 per annum.
Mandatory Supporting Documents for Completing the NSFAS Online Application:
- Provide your personal cellphone number and email address.
- Ensure you have a copy of your ID or birth certificate for verification.
- Include national ID copies of your parents, guardians, or spouse, as applicable.
- If necessary, provide evidence of your income or your 1-year IRP5.
- Additionally, include proof of income for your parents, guardian, or spouse.
- If you are a SASSA grant recipient, there is no requirement to furnish evidence of income.
- Applicants with disabilities must submit a fully completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form.
- Those recognized as Vulnerable Children by the Department of Social Development should also provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.

How to Apply NSFAS Online Application
- Visit the NSFAS Application website: www.nsfas.org.za
- Then, you click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab
- Create a myNSFAS account. If you don’t know how to create, click HERE
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab
- Update your personal information
- Answer the questions you see on the screen
- Upload all the required supporting documents
- Finally, you click on ‘submit
