The Special Relief of Distress (SRD) award is now managed under the Social Assistance Act rather than the State of Catastrophe Act because we are no longer in a state of catastrophe.

How to Apply for a SASSA SRD R350 Grant Online
The SASSA R350 online application award is requested in three simple steps.

  • Go tosrd.sassa.gov.za
  • Navigate down to the ‘How do I apply for this SRD Grant’ section
  • Locate and tap on “click here to apply online”
  • Enter your Mobile Number
  • Tap “Send SMS”
  • Your phone will receive an OTP SMS. Check your email for the code.
  • Enter the One Time Pin (OTP) received
  • Continue with the application process by completing the SASSA-required steps.

Applicants for the Sassa Care Dependency Grant must meet the following requirements:

  • A South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee is required.
  • Both the applicant and the child must be South African citizens.
  • The child must be under the age of 18.
  • A medical / assessment report confirming permanent, severe disability must be submitted by the applicant.
  • The applicant and spouse must meet the means test requirements (except for foster parents).
  • The care-dependent child or children must not be institutionalized indefinitely.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • The primary caregiver must be a citizen of South Africa, a citizen of a permanent resident, or a refugee.
  • The petitioner and the child must both be citizens of South Africa.
  • The applicant must be the child’s or children’s primary caretaker.
  • It is necessary that the child or children were born after December 31, 1993.
  • The means test requirements must be met by both the candidate and spouse.
  • The child is not permitted to apply for more than six non-biological children.
  • A state institution cannot care for a child.

Sassa Disability Grant

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • It is necessary to be a citizen of South Africa, a refugee, or a permanent resident.
  • The candidate must be a citizen of South Africa.
  • The applicant’s age must fall between 18 and 59.
  • The applicant must produce a medical or assessment report attesting to a serious, permanent disability.
  • At the time of application, the applicant’s medical evaluation could not be older than three months.
  • The applicant and spouse must meet the means test requirements.
  • The applicant cannot be housed or cared for in a state institution.
  • The applicant must not be receiving any other social grant in relation to himself or herself.

How do you know if you’re eligible for the grant?

  • The kid must be under the age of 18 and chronically incapacitated, as determined by a medical officer, to be eligible for the care dependency award.
