The Special Relief of Distress (SRD) award is now managed under the Social Assistance Act rather than the State of Disaster Act because we are no longer in a state of disaster. Therefore, how would SRD grant applications work in 2024?

The SRD award is set to end in March 2024. Every month, anyone who is interested can access the Sassa R350 grant applications.

You must provide Sassa permission to check your identity, place of residence, source of income, or social security benefits in order to access or have your SRD grant application taken into account. Additionally, the applicants must agree to the statement and consent.

Reapplications under the new Act are welcomed from current grantees. Once you’ve reapplied, you won’t need to do so again.

The submission of a single application rather than multiple applications on various platforms is strongly advised. You will be notified once your application has been submitted successfully.

All SRD grant applications received before the 15th of the month must then be approved or rejected by Sassa. Beneficiaries will then receive an SMS informing them whether or not they have been approved.

Online SRD Grant Application Instructions

• Visit srd.sassa.gov.za.
• Scroll down to the section titled ‘How do I apply for this SRD Grant?’ Click on the yellow bar that says ‘click here to apply online.’
• Enter your mobile phone number.
• Click the “send SMS” button.
• Then enter the one-time pin sent to the number by Sassa.
• Continue the application process by completing the steps specified by Sassa.
