Social grants are funds provided by the government to needy South Africans. The management of social grants in South Africa is the responsibility of the South African Social Security Agency. In an effort to improve living standards, social grants are given to people who are at risk of poverty and who require government assistance.
These typically include the elderly, those with disabilities, and parents of young children. All social assistance applicants must be South African citizens, lawful permanent residents, or refugees (proof of such status must be presented). They must also be South African citizens.
If you’re wondering how to create an online SASSA account, simply follow these steps:
- Go to: https://services.sassa.gov.za/Account/Register
- Fill out the user registration
- Provide your personal information, such as your name, surname, ID number, and so on.
- Please include your email address as well as your phone number. (Ensure that your contact information is up to date and that you use it on a regular basis, as you may receive communication from SASSA on it.)
- Provide a password that you will use to sign in to your SASSA account.
You will be able to apply for grants once you have created an online SASSA account.
All applicants must be South African citizens, permanent residents, or refugees residing in the country.
