  • The payment system checks an applicant’s cell phone number against other public databases as one of its fraud prevention measures.
  • If a candidate tries to apply using a different mobile phone number from the one they previously used to submit an application to an organization like the Unemployment Insurance Fund or the SA Revenue Service, the system will reject their application.

How is it paid out?

  • If recipients don’t have bank accounts, they can choose from a variety of banks to make ATM withdrawals.
  • Due to the large banks’ ability to send cash, people who do not have bank accounts will receive money.
  • To withdraw money using these systems, such as First National Bank’s eWallet and Absa’s CashSend, only basic information must be sent to a cell phone number; no card or other means of identification verification are necessary.
