South Africa’s Agency for Social Security (SASSA). All South Africans have access to fundamental social services thanks to the Social Services and Supports Act, or SASSA. The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) program will launch in 2013. It provides assistance with child support, old age pensions, income support, and disability.

What is the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) responsible for?

If an individual is granted permission to reside in South Africa but is unable to secure employment that will enable them to earn enough money to support themselves for one of the following reasons:

  • Age
  • Disability
  • Unemployment
  • Sickness etc

Concerning the Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD)

  • An important part of providing financial assistance to many persons in need during difficult times is played by the Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD). This funding is managed by the Social Security Agency of South Africa (SASSA).

Dates for SRD grant applications

  • Sassa R350 award applications are accepted every month for those interested. Furthermore, all SRD R350 grant applicants are required to reconfirm their grant applications at least once every three months.

Requirements for SRD R350 grant applications

Every application contains prerequisites or criteria that applicants must follow when applying. The materials listed below are the prerequisites for applicants.

  • South African citizens/permanent residents/refugees/asylum seekers/holders of special permits are required.
  • Must be Unemployed
  • Must not have any other source of income or financial support.
  • You must be between the ages of 18 and 60 to apply.
  • Applicants’ Documents Required

  • Identity number or Department of Home Affairs Refugee permit number
  • Name and surname as captured in the identity document
  • Contact details
  • Cell Phone Number
  • Residential Address
