To Request Financial Aid for 2024-2025 Through NSFAS: Are you seeking financial support to pursue higher education? Consider applying for a bursary from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS). NSFAS is a scholarship program financed by the Department of Higher Education and Training, designed for individuals who lack the financial resources to fund their educational endeavors and are unable to secure funding from banks, study loans, or scholarships.
The application period for NSFAS spans four months, commencing from August 3 and concluding on November 30. To ensure a successful application, applicants must gather the requisite supporting documents and complete the online application. Please note that applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Who qualifies for NSFAS Bursary?
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350 000 per annum
- A person with a disability: Combined household income must not be more than R600 000 per annum
- Students who started studying before 2018 whose household income is not more than R122 000 per annum.
Mandatory Supporting Documents for the Application Process:
- Your personal cellphone number and email address must be provided.
- You are required to possess a copy of either your ID or birth certificate for identification purposes.
- Include the national ID copies of your parents, guardians, or spouse, as applicable.
- If necessary, submit evidence of your income or your 1 year’s IRP5.
- Also, include proof of income for your parents, guardian, or spouse.
- If you are a recipient of SASSA grants, there is no need to furnish evidence of income.
- Applicants with disabilities must provide a fully completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form.
- If the Department of Social Development recognizes you as a Vulnerable Child, submit a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.

How to Apply for NSFAS Bursary Online Application
- Visit the NSFAS Application website: www.nsfas.org.za
- Then, you click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab
- Create a myNSFAS account. If you don’t know how to create, click HERE
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab
- Update your personal information
- Answer the questions you see on the screen
- Upload all the required supporting documents
- Finally, you click on ‘submit
How to Check NSFAS Application Status
In order to check NSFAS Application Status, you must follow the simple steps below:
- Visit NSFAS Status website: www.nsfas.org.za
- Then, log in to myNSFAS account, if you don’t have one, create one. Click HERE
- Enter your User ID
- Type in the password you created during the application process.
- Click “Track Funding Progress” to check your NSFAS Application Status.
