Technical and vocational education and training programs are of a vocational or occupational nature, which suggests that students enroll in these programs with the goal of pursuing a certain set of careers, employment opportunities, or business ventures. Some students might be eligible for admission to a university of technology under specific circumstances in order to advance their studies in the same subject of study they were pursuing at the TVET College.

When will the results of Tvet Colleges be released?

  • The release of the April NATED Report 190/191: Engineering Studies N2N3 tests administered by the Department of Higher Education and Training has been approved by Umalusi, the Quality Council in General and Further Education and Training (DHET). TVET and private colleges offer Engineering Studies N2-N3.
  • The April 2021 NATED Report 190/191: Engineering Studies N2-N3 Examinations were held from 1 April 2021 to 23 April 2021 at 383 examination centers for 124 417 instructional offering entries, according to DHET records. According to Umalusi, a total of 51 720 applicants took the April 2021 Engineering Studies tests, with 26 986 (52,2%) taking the N2 level and 24 734 (47,8%) taking the N3 level. There were a total of 55 subjects (instructional offers) delivered to the Assessment Standard Committee.
  • “Having studied all the evidence presented, the Executive Committee (EXCO) of Umalusi noted the challenges of non-submission of ICASS evidence by some centers and alleged isolated irregularities identified during monitoring of writing and marking of examinations,” the statement of approval from the Umalusi Council’s Executive Committee (EXCO) reads on May 19, 2021. The Department of Higher Education and Training’s NATED Report 190/191 Engineering Studies N2-N3 tests were given in April 2021, and EXCO is certain that no systemic irregularities were found that would have compromised their overall validity and integrity (DHET).
  • Based on available evidence that the examinations were given in compliance with the examination policies and norms, the Executive Committee of Council approves the release of the DHET April NATED Report 190/191: Engineering Studies N2-N3 examination results. When will the results of Tvet Colleges be released?

The DHET must do the following:

  • In the meanwhile, hold off on acting on the findings that three centers were violating ICASS rules while the DHET and Umalusi finish their ongoing investigations.
  • Block the results of candidates and instructional offerings of centers implicated in irregularities as detailed in Annexure E of the DHET report on the April Report 190/191 Examinations Irregularities and Incidents pending the outcome of additional DHET investigations and verification by Umalusi.
  • Address the high incidences of irregularities at private institutions; take harsh penalties against private colleges implicated in irregularities, and make a thorough report to Umalusi.
  • Address the compliance and improvement directions identified in the Quality Assurance of Assessment report.
