The utilization of UCT’s online courses has increased dramatically.
Massive Open Online Courses, which debuted in 2015, are introduced on the website of UCT’s Centre for Innovation and Learning by the following: “Numerous MOOCs are available through UCT (MOOCs). There are no prerequisites for these free online courses, and they do not count toward academic credit. A certificate can be bought, and there may occasionally be financial aid available.”
They are created with the expectation that many people will participate and that students will be in charge of their own education while taking classes with varied classmates who may be from any country in the world.
Since the coronavirus began to dominate South Africa at the beginning of March, UCT has discovered that more people are enrolling in these MOOCs. There are now over 35,000 more people enrolled.
According to UCT, “People who are eager to learn while under lockdown have provided such positive feedback to the Center for Innovation in Learning and Teaching. For people who are unable to attend a school or who want to advance their abilities in these times of economic turmoil, independent learning has also grown in popularity.
These MOOCs offer free online courses as well as peer-to-peer discussion forums, video and audio lectures, course materials, and content that can be downloaded and accessed whenever you want. Text transcripts are included with every video to improve accessibility.
23 MOOCs developed by UCT are available on various worldwide platforms. However, strong data and bandwidth are needed in order to attend these online courses due to those really global platforms.
