Many Sassa Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant applicants may have acquired a “Pending” status and may not be aware of the implications for the status of their application’s development. The ‘Pending’ status denotes the following.

According to the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa), applicants whose applications are marked as “Pending” do not yet have their applications approved. The applicant’s information is still being scanned by the agency for verification purposes.

Applicants should keep an eye on their Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant status for any changes, according to Sassa. The agency checks the applicant’s name, surname, and ID number with the Department of Home Affairs after the application has been verified.

Their ID numbers are compared to a variety of databases, such as the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), and the South African Revenue Services (SARS). This is done to make sure that the applicants do not already have any other grants or income.

A Fraud Risk Scoring procedure is then used to scan the applicant’s ID number and phone number. They will receive their payment through the Post Office, a bank, or Cash Send if their application is accepted.

Many applicants still have a status of “Pending” despite the fact that the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) is still processing payments for the current cycle of R350 grants. Sassa asserts that the agency has been attempting to keep up with the influx of current applications, which is why these applicants are experiencing this delay.

Sassa acknowledged being aware of the application backlog from May and stated that they are working on a project to resolve the issue. Applicants may have received their July payments prior to their May payments in order to resolve this issue.

In August, the organization intends to send its beneficiaries their May payments. Beneficiaries should be aware that because Sassa assesses each month separately, they will not receive double or lump sum payments, even though they may receive their May payments in August.
