If you have submitted an online application for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and are eagerly awaiting confirmation for the 2024 academic year, you can expect a response shortly after the application deadline. In case you haven’t received a notification from NSFAS yet, you should proactively check your application status. Here are the steps to view/check your NSFAS online application status:
- Log into your myNSFAS account portal.
- Enter your ID or username and password.
- Click the “SIGN IN!” button.
- Once you access your account dashboard, click on “Track Funding Progress” to review your application status.
- If your application has been successful, congratulations! If not, better luck next time.
To be eligible for NSFAS funding, the following criteria apply:
- All South African citizens
- All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
- Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350,000 per annum
- A person with a disability: Combined household income must not exceed R600,000 per annum
- Students who began their studies before 2018, with a household income not exceeding R122,000 per annum.
Additionally, when completing your NSFAS online application, you will need to provide the following supporting documents:
- Your own cellphone number and email address
- A copy of your ID or birth certificate
- National ID copies of parents, guardians, or spouse
- Evidence of your income or 1 year’s IRP5 if required
- Proof of income of your parents, guardian, or spouse
- SASSA grant recipients do not need to provide income evidence
- Applicants with a disability should submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
- Applicants known as Vulnerable Children by the Department of Social Development should also provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.
How to Apply NSFAS Online Application
- Visit the NSFAS Application website: www.nsfas.org.za
- Then, you click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab
- Create a myNSFAS account. If you don’t know how to create, click HERE
- Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab
- Update your personal information
- Answer the questions you see on the screen
- Upload all the required supporting documents
- Finally, you click on ‘submit
