In case you haven’t received a notification from NSFAS yet, you should proactively check your application status. Here are the steps to view/check your NSFAS online application status:

Log into your myNSFAS account portal.
Enter your ID or username and password.
Click the “SIGN IN!” button.
Once you access your account dashboard, click on “Track Funding Progress” to review your application status.
If your application has been successful, congratulations! If not, better luck next time.

To be eligible for NSFAS funding, the following criteria apply:

All South African citizens
All SASSA grant recipients qualify for funding
Applicants whose combined household income is not more than R350,000 per annum
A person with a disability: Combined household income must not exceed R600,000 per annum
Students who began their studies before 2018, with a household income not exceeding R122,000 per annum.

Additionally, when completing your NSFAS online application, you will need to provide the following supporting documents:

Your own cellphone number and email address
A copy of your ID or birth certificate
National ID copies of parents, guardians, or spouse
Evidence of your income or 1 year’s IRP5 if required
Proof of income of your parents, guardian, or spouse
SASSA grant recipients do not need to provide income evidence
Applicants with a disability should submit a completed and signed Disability Annexure A Form
Applicants known as Vulnerable Children by the Department of Social Development should also provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.
