A subsidiary campus of Lilitha Nursing Training College is the Andries Vosloo Hospital Nursing School. One of South Africa’s best nursing schools is Lilitha Nursing College.

The 2003 Education and Training of Nurses and Midwives Act 4 established Lilitha College of Nursing. The Act was intended to:

  • repeal the various apartheid laws that were used to create the various nursing schools in the province of the Eastern Cape;
  • Create a single college with five (5) main campuses and nineteen (19) satellite campuses strategically positioned throughout the Eastern Cape Province to meet the needs of the EC health system for nurse training;

The health system’s needs and priorities, as well as the EC Province’s demographics, inform the offered programs. The college offers specialist programs in addition to basic and post-basic nursing programs. It has consistently resulted in a large number of nurses being permanently assigned to the province’s clinical services. The college values academic excellence in education, putting generations of disciplinary knowledge to use in nursing practice and research on human experiences with health, illness, and healing. It also uses Community-Based and Evidence-Based practice, which focuses on holistic relationships centered on a caring approach that helps people feel better.

GENERAL NOTES

For admission to higher certificate or diploma programs and candidates’ educational certificates, prospective students must meet the statutory minimum requirements based on the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an equivalent school leaving certificate.

  • Levels and symbols obtained during the June/September exams for Grade 12 or confirmation that the current employer is processing study leave will be used to determine provisional admission. However, Lilitha College of Nursing’s final decision will be based on the applicant’s final grade 12 results, confirmation that the applicant has been granted study leave by the employer, and evidence that the applicant has not yet reached the pensionable age (55-60), which is required for all college programs.
    For each program, there are specific requirements. The Admission Point System, or APS, is used to assign points to your NSC or equivalent subjects:

Admission Point System

For example, to register for a Basic Diploma you need an APS of at least 18 with an NSC/equivalent pass of Biology/Life Science at Level 4 or D Symbol and English at Level 3 or E Symbol Aggregate:
