The 2003 Education and Training of Nurses and Midwives Act 4 established Lilitha College of Nursing. The Act was intended to:
- Eliminate the various pieces of apartheid legislation that were responsible for the establishment of the various nursing colleges in the Eastern Cape Province;
Create a single college with five main campuses and 19 sub campuses spread out throughout the Eastern Cape Province to meet the needs of the EC health system for nurse education.

Dora Nginza Hospital Nursing School: How to Apply for Admission and the Application Form for 2023 and 2024
- The recruitment and selection of students in the Eastern Cape must address the severe shortage of nurses in the Province, particularly in the remote rural areas, and ensure that nursing education programs are accessible to candidates from both urban and rural areas.
GENERAL NOTES
For admission to higher certificate or diploma programs and candidates educational certificate, prospective students must meet the statutory minimum requirements based on the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an equivalent school leaving certificate.
Levels and symbols obtained during the June/September exams for Grade 12 or confirmation that the current employer is processing study leave will be used to determine provisional admission. However, Lilitha College of Nursing’s final decision will be based on the applicant’s final grade 12 results, confirmation that the applicant has been granted study leave by the employer, and evidence that the applicant has not yet reached the pensionable age (55-60), which is required for all college programs.
For each program, there are specific requirements. The Admission Point System, or APS, is used to assign points to your NSC or equivalent subjects:

Every year, ECDoH provides full-time students with financial aid in the form of a bursary. Based on their registration with Lilitha College of Nursing (LCoN), a predetermined percentage of selected candidates will receive bursaries automatically. The Bursary Contract’s terms and conditions apply. The bursary will be retained by students who complete all of their courses and move on to the next level of instruction. - Regardless of the aggregate symbol on a Grade 12 certificate, enrolled nurses and auxiliary nurses with a standard 10 certificate will be considered;

SELECTION OF CANDIDATES
Phase 2
The system that will be used to select candidates is as follows:
- 50% will be males.
- 50% will be females;
INTERVIEWS:
Phase 3
- A schedule for the potential candidates’ interviews will be created after phase 2 is finished;

- When a candidate is called for an interview, they are informed at the interview that if they do not hear back from the college after the interview, their application was not successful.
MEDICAL EXAMINATION
As part of Phase 4 of the process, medical examinations will be performed to provide candidates with assistance if required by the medical report.
FINAL SELECTION
The Campus Head will inform the chosen/successful candidates that training will begin on the first of February of each year, per the college administration’s instructions.
POST BASIC PROGRAMME R 212
The college also provides career advancement programs for nurses who have completed Grade 12 and already hold a professional nurse position in the nursing field. For these programs, a registered nurse must have at least two years of experience in the clinical setting and a current license to practice.
