Before initiating their application, applicants should confirm that they meet the following minimum eligibility criteria to prevent their NSFAS application from being rejected:

  • South African citizenship is mandatory for all applicants.
  • SASSA grant recipients are automatically eligible for funding.
  • Applicants qualify if the combined household income does not exceed R350,000 per annum.
  • Individuals with disabilities can apply if the combined household income is not over R600,000 per annum.
  • Students who commenced their studies prior to 2018 are eligible if their household income does not surpass R122,000 per annum.

REQUIRED SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS DURING THE APPLICATION PROCESS

To ensure the success of your application, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will require additional information from you. Please provide the following supporting documents:

  • Your own cellphone number and email address.
  • A copy of your ID or birth certificate.

  • If identified as a Vulnerable Child by the Department of Social Development, provide a completed and signed Vulnerable Child Declaration and Consent Form.

  • Then, you click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab

  • Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab
  • Update your personal information
  • Answer the questions you see on the screen
  • Upload all the required supporting documents
  • Finally, you click on ‘submit
