The start of May signals the impending SASSA payday. In June 2024, grant payments are due on the days indicated below.

The South African Social Agency (SASSA) has released the following payment dates for the month of June 2024:

• Older Person’s Grants 3 June
• • Any grants connected to these accounts are also included.
• Disability Grants 4 June
• This includes any grants that are associated with these accounts.
• Foster Care Grants 7 June
• Care Dependency Grants 7 June
• Child Support Grants 7 June

In order to avoid long lines and being turned away without assistance, SASSA has advised beneficiaries not to rush to collection points as soon as they receive their payment SMS.

Poor or vulnerable South Africans can apply for grants from SASSA.

The Special Relief of Distress grant application period, which provided recipients with R350 per month, ended on April 30. However, SASSA has stated that you will be able to claim your R350 grant at a later date if you do not do so by April 30.

Until May 31, appeals for the R350 grant are being accepted. If applicants were turned down unfairly, this would give them a second chance to be eligible for the grant.

Payments are made from the month you applied or submitted your appeal, so payments may not have stopped on 30 April. SASSA has not stated when the grant payments will end, owing to payment backlogs at the agency.

SASSA was established in 2005 to oversee the distribution of social grants on behalf of the Department of Social Development. This was done to improve the country’s living standards and is given to people who are vulnerable to poverty and/or in need of government assistance.

SASSA administers the Care Dependency Grant, Child Support Grant, Disability Grant, Foster Child Grant, Old Persons Grant, War Veteran’s Grant, Grant-In-Aid, and the well-known Social Relief Of Distress Grant.
