Beneficiaries of certain Sassa social grants can expect an increase in their monthly payments in October, as the agency increased grants.

In October, the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) increased social grants. Beneficiaries of the R350 SRD grant will be pleased to learn that it has been extended for another year.

Grants to administer social assistance to South African citizens were only increased by a small percentage.

The following social grants will be increased:

• From R1980 to R1990, older age (60-74 years old) will increase.
• Age (75+ years) will rise from R2000 to R2010.
• From R1980 to R1990, the number of war veterans will rise.
• From R1980 to R1990, disability will rise.
• From R1980 to R1990, care dependency will rise.

These Sassa grants have all been increased by R10.

The Foster Care Grant, Child Support Grant, and Grant-In-Aid have not been increased because these grants were previously increased by R20 in April.

Minister of Social Development Lindiwe Zulu, on the other hand, has announced that the Child Support Grant (CSG) Top-up will be introduced to help orphaned children in the country.

Caregivers of orphaned children are eligible to apply for the CSG Top-up, which means they will receive R480 plus an additional R240 per month, for a total of R720 per child.
