The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has requested that recipients of permanent grants make alternate plans in order to collect their funds. This is because grants can’t be paid out owing to a system error at pay points.
Around 18 million permanent social subsidies are given out each month by Sassa. The Older Persons Grant, Disability Grant, Child Support Grant, Foster Care Grant, Grant in Aid, War Veterans Grant, and Care Dependency Grant are among these permanent awards.
Each month’s first week sees the distribution of permanent grants. Many recipients of these subsidies pick them up at a South African Post Office (SAPO) location.
However, because Sapo has suffered system issues, they won’t be able to pick up their grants at a Post Office this week.
The organization states that Sassa gold card holders can withdraw their funds from ATMs and businesses. Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, and Boxer are the retail stores.
As a result of system issues at Post Office outlets today, Sassa grant beneficiaries are encouraged to collect money from stores and ATMs.
As the SASSA gold cards operate fully within the national payments system similar to any other bank card, Sassa Grant recipients can use their Sassa cards to make purchases anywhere that accepts bank cards, according to the agency.
The Post Bank has expressed regret to all recipients of social grants for the inconvenience the technological problems are causing and will let everyone know when the problems have been fixed.
The government provides social handouts to millions of South Africans who use them to make monthly purchases of essential products and services. However, it’s possible that these grant winners won’t be able to get their funding as usual.
The problems causing the system hiccups, according to Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi, have already been found. To decide when to begin disbursing grants, they will however meet with the management group on Friday.
Letsatsi continued by saying that Sassa would go above and beyond to make sure grant beneficiaries could get their money. This is because it would be unrealistic to expect them to go without this financial assistance for the full weekend.
