  • South African citizens in need receive social grants from the government. In South Africa, SASSA is in charge of social grants. Social grants are available to people who are at risk of falling into poverty and require government assistance to improve their standard of living. The elderly, people with disabilities, and parents with young children are frequently among these. A South African citizen, legal permanent resident, or refugee must apply for a social grant (proof of such status must be provided). They must be South African citizens as well.

What is a means test?

  • Some social grants, such as child support, disability, care dependency, and social relief of distress, are subject to a “means test.” SASSA will use the means test to determine your eligibility for a social grant based on your income and assets. The means test determines your eligibility for a grant designed for people who cannot afford to live on their own.

Care dependency allowance

Parents with disabled children who work full-time may be eligible for care dependence grants. How much money will be distributed in total as part of this grant?

  • R1 860 per child, per month.

How do you know if you qualify for the grant?

  • To qualify for the care dependency award, the child must be under the age of 18 and chronically disabled as established by a medical officer. If you’re married, both you and your spouse need to meet the means test’s minimum requirements. You can use the following articles to assist you with your Sassa application.
