Students who are in financial need can receive money in the form of a bursary from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, or NSFAS. Thankfully, they also provide funding for NSFAS students.

You might be curious about what NSFAS benefits are offered to TVET College students as well as what else NSFAS covers. Here is your response.

The following allowances are provided to students by NSFAS:

Personal Care Allowance
- Each NSFAS-funded student receives a personal allowance of R2,900 annually.
Transport Allowance
- You qualify for the transport allowance and will get R7 350 per year if you reside less than 40 kilometers from the college.
Accommodation Allowance
- For students who live in private accommodation more than 40 km from the College:
  - Students who live in rural areas receive R15 750 per year
  - Students who live in peri-urban areas receive R18 900 per year
  - Students who live in urban areas receive R25 200 per year
- If students are staying in the college’s dormitories, their annual housing allowance is R33 000.

They will also pay for registration and tuition costs.

The NSFAS wallet mechanism is being used to distribute allowances to TVET College students.

On behalf of the Department, NSFAS maintains and oversees the TVET College Bursary Program.
