In an effort to make more people eligible for the Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant, the Department of Social Development (DSD) made changes to the Social Assistance Act.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) welcomed the changes because they could bring the total number of grant recipients to approximately 10 million.

Someone will need to fill out an application on the SRD grant website before they can get the money. Applicants will be able to see their SRD grant status once Sassa reviews their application.

However, some people are unable to check the status of their SRD grant. According to Sassa, the agency must consider millions of applications, which could mean that some grant applicants will have to wait longer for a response.

Keep in mind that the application system is currently processing millions of applications simultaneously, the agency stated. Your current status will be available soon.

Sassa verifies grant applications by sending the ID number, name, and surname you provide on your application to various banks and government agencies. This is done to see if you meet all the SRD grant eligibility requirements.

Applicants are asked to remain patient during these grant verification checks, as this process may take some time.

You will be able to determine whether or not you are eligible for the crucial relief mechanism once you know the status of your SRD grant. It also explains to applicants the reasoning behind Sassa’s decision to accept or reject your grant application.

You have the option of appealing the rejection of your grant application. However, it is essential to note that R350 grant appeals are no longer handled by Sassa. The Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals (ITSAA) is the new venue for SRD grant appeals.
