The Academic Registrar of the University of the Witwatersrand regularly extends invitations to eligible South African and international applicants to apply for academic programs in the ongoing academic year. Both South African and international applicants are only accepted into undergraduate study programs during specific dates in the year preceding the year of study. To ensure timely submission of your application, please review the list of application deadlines provided below.
Admissions Opening and Closing Dates for Wits
- In 2024, admissions applications go on sale in May and close in August.
The Application Fee Must Be Paid
- There is a non-refundable application fee of R100 for South African citizens.
- For foreign citizens, there is a non-refundable application fee of R700.
- Payments must be made before the deadlines.
- Use your Person Number or T Number as a reference.
Please include any supporting documentation.
- If you did not upload supporting documents when you applied, you can now do so via the student self-service portal at https://self-service.wits.ac.za.
- Enter the first six digits of your ID as well as your personal number (not your T number) to log in.
- Please submit your Grade 11 final grades to the current students (no hardcopy required).
- Already registered? All of your matriculation/exit certificates should be uploaded in certified copy format.
- Other Postsecondary Institutions: Please upload a certified copy of your official academic records, along with a statement or certificate attesting to your good character that has been signed by the registrar of your institution, for ALL tertiary registrations. (Please note that GEMP applicants’ interim, self-service generated results will only be taken into account for initial assessment purposes.)
