How to Get a Free Email Address
Learn How to Get a Free Email Address from this page.
Although you may believe that obtaining an email address is a simple and easy task, many students and even adults struggle. Technology has taken over, and you must either keep up or be left behind. You will need an email address at some point in your life. And it will be required for (almost) everything on the Internet. You’ll want to be a part of the social media frenzy, buy things online, use them for work, or simply keep in touch with people all over the world.
When you get an email address, consider the following:
1. Select an Email Service Provider
This is ultimately the first thing you’ll need to figure out. Which email service provider should I be associated with? Which one will provide me with the most benefits? You should ideally choose an email provider with plenty of email storage space and simple-to-use features. The whole point of having an email address is to be reachable and, conversely, to be reachable.
Consider the following email providers:
Of course, these are not the only email providers with which you can sign up, but they are among the best.
2. Time to Apply Online
It’s time to sign up for your email service after you’ve decided on one. What’s even better is that most email providers let you create accounts for free. Yes, you read that correctly: it is completely free. The website you want to join will have a sign-up link. When you click it, you’ll be taken to a page where you can create an account and provide some basic personal information, such as your:
- Full Name
- Last Name
- User Name (we’ll cover tips on this in the next point – this is an important one)
- Birth Place
- Gender
- Contact number
Things to avoid:
- Using too many numbers
- Inappropriate nicknames (just to note, this won’t go down well with your future job employer)
If you send in a job application and the first thing your prospective employer sees is katie923iscool@gmail.com, it can go one of two ways. Either your future employer will throw your email in the trash, or they will find it amusing in some obscure way. Nonetheless, keep in mind that having a professional email address is always preferable.
If you’re really desperate and need a unique email address, you can always set up two accounts: one for professional emails and one for personal emails.
To sum it up:
- Just use your name
- Keep it simple
- Determine whether or not you want it to be professional.
4. Create a Password
Your password is the only way to keep any information in your email account secure. Make sure the password you choose is one you’ll remember, not too difficult, and not too easy for someone to steal. Nowadays, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. In your password, include at least 8 characters, lower and upper case lettering, and numbers. This strengthens your password and reduces the likelihood of someone stealing it.
As a reminder, change your password on a regular basis to improve the security of your account.
5. You’re Ready to Go – New Email Address in the Bag
After you’ve filled in all of your information, click the sign up’ button, and congratulations – you now have an account. You’re one step closer to a whole new level of Internet exploration.
