The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is handled in line with Section 32 of the Social Assistance Act of 2004 (Act No. 13 of 2004) and is handed out with the agreement of the Minister of Finance. The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD Grant) is intended for South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers, and Special Permit Holders between the ages of 18 and 60 who have insufficient means and do not receive social grants on behalf of themselves/himself is not contributing to or eligible for UIF payment, and have no other financial support.

Applicants or their representatives must confirm or supply the following information in order for SASSA to examine their application.

  • Confirmation that they have read and accepted the Declaration and Consent Documents provisions
    Personal Information
  • Phone Number (cell phone number)
  • Information on Employment and Lifestyle Sustainability
  • Banking Specifics

It is important to mention

  • Please bear in mind that all information will be delivered electronically, and there will be no need to upload any documents. Please give SASSA with a Mobile Number (cell phone number) where we may reach you to provide you with application status updates. You can also monitor the status of your application on this page. If your application is denied, you may file an appeal with the Department of Social Development for each month your application was denied. When you are notified that your application has been denied, you will be instructed on how to file an appeal. Failure to file an appeal for each month the application is denied will result in the original application being denied.

How does the SRD R350 grant function?

  • Since April 2022, all active SRD R350 grant applications or reapplications have been automatically assessed for each month until March 2023. Existing candidates can update their screening questionnaire replies here at any time if their circumstances alter or to correct inaccuracies.
