Because we are no longer in a state of disaster, the Special Relief of Distress (SRD) award is now administered under the Social Assistance Act rather than the State of Disaster Act. So, how would SRD grant applications in 2024 function now?

In March 2024, the SRD award is scheduled to expire. Applications for the Sassa R350 grant are made accessible to everyone interested each month.

In order to access or consider your SRD grant application, Sassa needs your consent to verify your identity, place of residence, source of income, or social security benefits. The applicants must also concur with the statement and consent.

Reapplications from current grantees under the new Act are encouraged. You won’t need to reapply after the first time.

It is strongly recommended that you submit a single application rather than several applications on different platforms. Once your application has been successfully submitted, you will be notified.

All SRD grant applications received before the 15th of the month must then be approved or rejected by Sassa. Beneficiaries will then receive an SMS informing them whether or not they have been approved.

Online SRD Grant Application Instructions

• Visit srd.sassa.gov.za.
• Scroll down to the section titled ‘How do I apply for this SRD Grant?’ Click on the yellow bar that says ‘click here to apply online.’
• Enter your mobile phone number.
• Click the “send SMS” button.
• Then enter the one-time pin sent to the number by Sassa.
• Continue the application process by completing the steps specified by Sassa.
