The Special Relief of Distress (SRD) award is now administered under the Social Assistance Act rather than the State of Disaster Act because we are no longer in a state of disaster. So, how do SRD grant applications in 2024 work now?

The SRD award is set to expire in March 2024. Every month, applications for the Sassa R350 grant are made available to anyone who is interested.

Sassa requires your permission to verify your identity, place of residence, source of income, or social security benefits in order to access or consider your SRD grant application. The applicants must also agree with and consent to the statement.

Reapplications from current grantees under the new Act are encouraged. You won’t need to reapply after the first time.

It is strongly recommended that you submit a single application rather than several applications on different platforms. Once your application has been successfully submitted, you will be notified.

Before the 15th of the month, Sassa must either accept or reject all SRD grant applications. After that, beneficiaries will get an SMS letting them know if they were approved or not.

Online SRD Grant Application Instructions

• Visit srd.sassa.gov.za.
• To apply for this SRD Grant, scroll down to the section titled “How do I apply?” To apply online, click the yellow bar that says “click here.”
• Enter your mobile phone number.
• Click the “send SMS” button.
• Then enter the one-time pin sent to the number by Sassa.
• Continue the application process by completing the steps specified by Sassa.
