Because we are no longer in a state of disaster, the Special Relief of Distress (SRD) award is now administered under the Social Assistance Act rather than the State of Disaster Act. So, how would SRD grant applications in 2024 function now?

The SRD award is set to expire in March 2024. Every month, Sassa R350 grant applications are available for anyone who wish to apply.

An applicant must grant consent for Sassa to verify his or her identity, residency, income, or social security benefits in order to access or have your SRD grant application considered. Applicants must also accept and consent to the declaration and consent.

Existing beneficiaries are encouraged to reapply under the new Act. You will not be required to apply again once you have reapplied.

Applicants are encouraged to submit a single application rather than several applications across multiple platforms. Once the application has been properly submitted, you will receive confirmation.

All SRD grant applications received before the 15th of the month must then be approved or rejected by Sassa. Beneficiaries will then receive an SMS informing them whether or not they have been approved.

• Visit srd.sassa.gov.za.
• Scroll down to the section titled ‘How do I apply for this SRD Grant?’ Click on the yellow bar that says ‘click here to apply online.’
• Enter your mobile phone number.
• Click the “send SMS” button.
• Then enter the one-time pin sent to the number by Sassa.
• Continue the application process by completing the steps specified by Sassa.
