Technical and Business Education Initiative in South Africa (Tabeisa) and Tsolo Agricultural and Rural Development Institute (Tardi) opt for improved relations

  • Cooperation between the Technical and Business Education Initiative in South Africa (Tabeisa) and the Tsolo Agricultural and Rural Development Institute (Tardi) recently received a boost when the two institutions proposed extending their cooperative agreement from one year to five years.
  • These two academic institutes began collaborating in November 2008.
  • Tardi has welcomed two lecturers from the University College of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. Two designers who graduated from London University were also recently welcomed. Tabeisa financed the two to study home industry courses such as chutney making, jam making, and apparel design.
  • Recently, international professionals in the fields of chutney, jam, and apparel designers were welcomed to the institution to provide training, and the occasion was graced by the Nyandeni local municipality’s skills development facilitator. This training was carried out in collaboration with Tardi and Mpofu College technical employees and was spearheaded by Tabeisa United Kingdom experts.

The goal of jam production is to add value to the use of locally grown fruits and vegetables. Using only the ingredients and equipment available in the home industry sector, she was able to prepare pineapple jam, banana and pear jam, tomato and ginger jam, Eastern Cape orange jam, and tomato chutney.
