Many students do not complete Matric in high school for a variety of reasons and then look for alternative ways to complete it. So, can you do matric at a TVET College? Continue reading to find out.

Many students in South Africa do not complete or even reach their Matric year for a variety of reasons, including leaving school to begin providing for their families who are struggling financially. Others are also in a situation where they did not complete their Matric year.

Some of these students usually want to finish their matriculation later so that they can apply for specific jobs or universities or colleges. Sometimes this entails returning to their high school to redo their matric year, but there are now many other options.

So, can you matriculate at a TVET College?

The response is that you can.

Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges are academic institutions where students receive instruction and preparation for a particular set of jobs, employment opportunities, or entrepreneurial opportunities. Students may be eligible for admission to a University of Technology to continue their studies at a higher level in the same field of study after earning a qualification at a TVET College.

People who have completed Grade 9 are given the opportunity to complete matric at TVET Colleges, and there is typically no age restriction. A National Vocational Certificate (NCV) is available at Levels 2, 3, and 4, which correspond to Grades 10, 11, and 12.

So, in order to complete matric, all you need to do is earn an NCV Level 4, which is equivalent to a Matric Certificate academically, at a TVET college.

However, technical skills are where an NCV qualification places its focus.

Normal registration for Matric retakes is limited to subjects that students have previously failed or completed and wish to improve; in other words, you cannot switch out one subject for another.

In this situation, the student would need to get in touch with the appropriate TVET College and ask about options for retaking matric. Even the option to retake Matric, either part-time or full-time, is provided by some TVET colleges.
