Lilitha Nursing Training College’s Dr. Malizo Mpehle Memorial Hospital Nursing School is a sub-campus. One of South Africa’s best nursing schools is Lilitha Nursing College.
The 2003 Education and Training of Nurses and Midwives Act 4 established Lilitha College of Nursing. The Act was intended to:
- Eliminate the various pieces of apartheid legislation that were responsible for the establishment of the various nursing colleges in the Eastern Cape Province;
- Create a single college with five main campuses and 19 sub-campuses spread out throughout the Eastern Cape Province to meet the needs of the EC health system for nurse education.
The health system’s needs and priorities, as well as the EC Province’s demographics, inform the offered programs. The college offers specialist programs in addition to basic and post-basic nursing programs. It has consistently resulted in a large number of nurses being permanently assigned to the province’s clinical services. The college values academic excellence in education, putting generations of disciplinary knowledge to use in nursing practice and research on human experiences with health, illness, and healing. It also uses Community-Based and Evidence-Based practice, which focuses on holistic relationships centered on a caring approach that helps people feel better.
