NSFAS Disbursement Date 2024-2025: The release of NSFAS allowances is typically a step-by-step process. Each year, following the approval of funding for students, NSFAS initiates the crediting of allowances to the successful applicants’ wallets in their MyNSFAS accounts within the first week of every month. If you haven’t received your payment, please continue checking your NSFAS wallet, as the funds will eventually be credited to your account.

What the Bursary covers

University Students

  • Tuition Fees
  • Accommodation As per the actual costs charged by the university (costs for private accommodation must not exceed costs for university residence)
  • Transport (up to 40 km from the institution) R7 500  per year
  • Living allowance of R15,000  per year
  • Book allowances R5200 per year
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per year for students in catered residences

TVET College Students

  • Tuition Fees
  • Accommodation
    • Urban area R24,000 per year
    • Peri-urban area R18,900 per year
    • Rural area R15,750 per year
  • Transport
    • up to 40 km from the institution R7,350  per year
    • R7000 per year
  • Incidental/personal care allowance R2900 per year

NSFAS will also provide assistive devices & human support for applicants with disabilities.

How to View/Check My Nsfas Online Application Status

All applicants who have been approved will receive notification from NSFAS through an SMS, an email, and their myNSFAS account once the decision-making process is finalized.

To verify your NSFAS application status:

  • Access your myNSFAS account portal.
  • Enter your ID or username and password.
  • Click the “SIGN IN!” button.
  • After logging into your account dashboard, select “Track Funding Progress” to review your application status.

How to Apply for NSFAS Online Application

  • Visit the NSFAS Application website: www.nsfas.org.za
  • Then, you click on the ‘myNSFAS’ tab
  • Create a myNSFAS account. If you don’t know how to create, click HERE
  • Click on the ‘APPLY’ tab
  • Update your personal information
  • Answer the questions you see on the screen
  • Upload all the required supporting documents
  • Finally, you click on ‘submit
