Thousands of Sassa grant recipients who were eligible for the R350 grant during the first cycle of the SRD grant have yet to be paid. Furthermore, more than 442 000 grant recipients from the second cycle, which runs from August to March, have yet to claim their funds.

According to the Department of Social Development, eligible recipients can still do so.

During a television interview, Paseka Letsatsi, a spokesperson for Sassa, stated that approximately 330 000 R350 grant recipients have yet to receive their grant payments from the previous cycle.

Letsatsi adds that part of the reason for the backlog is that Sassa suspended the SRD grant prior to the start of the previous cycle. He goes on to say that in some cases, beneficiaries may have misplaced or changed their phone numbers.

Sassa has also observed that beneficiaries often leave out their bank account numbers when applying for the SRD grant in order to conceal their transaction history.

Sassa conducts its verification process on a monthly basis for people who applied for the grant but began receiving payments a few months after their application was approved.
