APPLICATIONS FOR COVID-19 UNEMPLOYMENT GRANTS IN THE AMOUNT OF R350 ARE NOW OPEN.

Applications for the R350 special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress Grant for unemployed people are now being accepted by the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa).

Here’s everything you need to know about the procedure:

Requirements:

Applicants must be:

• – above the age of 18;
• – unemployed;
• – not receiving any income;
• – not receiving any social grant;
• – does not get unemployment insurance benefits and does not eligible for unemployment insurance benefits;
• – not receiving a stipend from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme; and
• – not a resident in a government-funded or subsidized institution.

Prospective applicants must provide the following mandatory information in order for their applications to be processed:

• – Identity Number;
• – Name and Surname as captured in the ID (and initials);
• – Gender and Disability;
• – Banking details – Bank name and account number;
• – Contact details – Cell phone number;
• – Proof of residential address;

When does it begin to pay out, and how long is it valid?

On May 15, the first R350 special Covid-19 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grants will be distributed.

• The grants, which will last six months and will be worth R2 100 each, are available to all South Africans over the age of 18 who do not have any other source of income and do not receive any other form of government assistance.

Ways to apply:

1. Send a WhatsApp message to 082 046 8553. (The Department of Health WhatsApp line on 060 012 3456, where initial tests were conducted, is no longer operational).
2. Email to SRD@sassa.gov.za, which automatically sends back a form to fill in
3. A USSD code, by dialling *134*7737# from a cell phone

Sassa Disability Grant

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• A South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee is required.
• The applicant must be a South African citizen.
• The applicant must be between the ages of 18 and 59.
• A medical / assessment report confirming permanent, severe disability must be submitted by the applicant.
• The applicant’s medical evaluation must be no more than three months old at the time of application.
• The applicant and spouse must meet the means test requirements.
• The applicant cannot be housed or cared for in a state institution.
• The applicant must not be receiving any other social grant in relation to himself or herself.
