UFS registration fees:
As of the time this article was written, the University of the Free State (UFS) does not impose a registration fee. Students are only required to pay a small deposit, covering the complete cost of their housing and tuition.
Please note that any changes to UFS registration fees will be promptly communicated. It is advisable to check this page frequently for updates.
Undergraduate applications are now being accepted for the class of 2024.
- Please make sure you meet the entrance requirements at the very least before applying by consulting the 2024 Undergraduate Prospectus.
Each prospective student must complete the online application. - Once your online application has been completed and reviewed, you will be given a student number (Reference number).
- Admission to the University of the Free State is not guaranteed by a student number, also known as a reference number.
- The most recent results are used to process applications for candidates who are retaking Grade 12 courses. Any Grade 12 exams you took more than once must be combined, and your combined scores must be submitted with your application.
- Candidates who took the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examination through the IEB or SACAI examination organizations may apply online by selecting “National Senior Certificate” on the Results page.
- Candidates for the Class of 2012 must provide copies of their final, school-stamped Grade 11 transcripts.Transfer students from another university or tertiary institution must disclose their prior coursework and upload an official copy of their academic record when submitting an application (where applicable).
- The General Education Development (GED) test is not a requirement for any undergraduate degree program at the University of the Free State. The GED is no longer recognized by South African universities (USAF), nor is it recognized as being on par with a grade 12 there (NSC/IEB/SACAI). A grade 12 NSC/IEB/SACAI or international equivalent should be taken by GED holders who intend to pursue an undergraduate degree.
- Applicants who did not complete SC/NSC/IEB must receive USAF accreditation from the South African University Examination Board. You can submit an online application for a conditional exemption, a foreign conditional exemption, or a mature age conditional exemption by clicking HERE or by sending an email to applications@usaf.ac.za.
