UFS Online application requirements 2024-2025
This page provides detailed information about the 2024–2025 UFS Online application requirements.
Qualifications for Enrollment at the University of the Free State (UFS):
- Hold an NSC, NCV, or an equivalent qualification allowing entry into degree programs (e.g., a Bachelor’s degree).
- Meet all the specific requirements for the program you wish to enroll in. Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee admission due to limited spots in each program.
- Proficiency in either English or Afrikaans, the two UFS languages of instruction, at a minimum level of 4 (50%) (applicable to certain programs).
- Pass specific school subjects with a minimum grade to enroll in a particular university module. Faculty-specific admission requirements provide details on prerequisite subjects and proficiency standards for each program.
Important Information for All Students:
- Apply early as there are limited spots in each program. Failure to provide necessary information during the application process may result in non-admission or registration issues.
- Academic achievement is emphasized, and higher AP scores improve selection chances. Meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee selection; priority is given to applicants with the highest AP scores.
- Complete and submit a comprehensive application with all required supporting documentation. Incomplete applications or missing documents can cause delays.
- Transferring students must submit original copies of official study records and conduct certificates.
- International students must provide a conditional exemption certificate issued by the Matriculation Board in addition to certified school-leaving certificates, diplomas, and transcripts.
Admission Requirements for UFS:
- Conditional admission is possible based on Grade 11 or equivalent results, provided all minimal requirements for the intended program are met.
- Final admission depends on Grade 12 results, and notification of the university’s decision is sent after the Department of Education releases these results.
- The Admission Point (AP) score is calculated based on the NSC achievement scale, with seven levels. No points are awarded for achievement levels below 30%, and Life Orientation from achievement level 5 (60%) or higher receives one point in determining the AP score for admission.
Prospective applicants are advised to thoroughly review the admission requirements for their chosen programs and ensure accurate contact details on their application forms.
NSC Level | UFS AP |
7 (90%–100%) | 8 |
7 (80%–89%) | 7 |

4 (50%–59%) | 4 |
3 (40%–49%) | 3 |
2 (30%–39%) | 2 |
1 (0%–29%) | – |

For one (1) further academic subject, you must obtain a level 4 (50%) | 1 x 4 = 4 |
For Life Orientation, a level of 5 (60%) or higher to score 1 point | 1 x 1 = 1 |
