Dr. Christopher Peppler founded the seminary in 1996, and it is one of the original members of South Africa’s National Association of Distance Education Organization (NADEOSA). SATS is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE), and the South African Department of Higher Education and Training has recognized its qualifications. This accreditation is on par with the regional US accreditation in terms of quality. The following undergraduate (Higher Certificate in Christian Life, Higher Certificate in Christian Counseling, Bachelor of Theology, B.Th., Bachelor of Theology with a focus on Christian Counseling) and graduate programs are offered by SATS, which has the power to award degrees up to the doctorate level (B.Th. Honours, Master of Divinity, M.Th., Ph.D. in Theology).

Elders of The Village Church, which Rosebank Union Church started, have spiritual control over SATS. Theologically, the seminary takes a largely evangelical stance. The South African Theological Seminary’s objective is to equip Christians, and especially leaders within their local church setting, with Bible-based, Christ-centered, and Spirit-led distance education and training so they can be powerful members of God’s family.
