• In Johannesburg, South Africa, there is a public institution called the University of Johannesburg (UJ). The Technikon Witwatersrand (TWR), the Soweto and East Rand campuses of Vista University, and the Rand Afrikaans University (RAU) merged to form the University of Johannesburg on January 1, 2005. The Daveyton and Soweto campuses of the previous Vista University had been merged into RAU before the merger. Alumni frequently refer to the university as RAU as a result of the merger with Rand Afrikaans University (RAU). Professor Tshilidzi Marwala was appointed vice chancellor and principal of UJ on January 1, 2018. Prof. Ihron Lester Rensburg served as the vice chancellor and principal of UJ from 2005 to 2017.

• Applications are accepted for undergraduate students from April through September. Applications for postgraduate study must be submitted by October 1st.
